He said high U.S. interest rates could force central banks in countries such as South Africa, India and Mexico to raise their own rates to deal with currency devaluations, inflationary pressures, risks of capital flight and external debt repayment problems. This in turn could attract foreign investors seeking higher returns, leading to increased demand for emerging market bonds. He added that emerging market stocks could also be boosted by industries such as finance and utilities, which could benefit from interest rate hikes.
